When you get hit, you die.
Just to get that out of the way.
However,
If you have something you can stake instead, you survive the blow.
A given piece of armour can be staked a number of times before breaking. Very cheap armour once, good armour thrice or four times, masterwork even higher.
Each limb you have can be staked once. When it is, you lose it. So stake something else first. Gear, too - but you want to keep all of that. So, what’s the solution?
Well, with a good campsite and a pot of hearty stew, your adventurer can gain the “Well-rested” and “Well-fed” buffs, which can be put up as the stake instead of precious limbs and gear. You’ll get “Relaxed” from carousing, or perhaps “Part of the Plan” from the Shepherd’s tactical rundown.
Certain stakes may say “this can be used to pass a particular type of check or save automatically” - perhaps the “Serene” buff from praying in the chapel you built up at base camp lets you pass fear saves automatically.
Fighters get [templates] free “Well-trained” stakes every day.
This encourages two things I like in games: gruesome dismemberment of PCs and caring about your campsite and meals.
Good stuff! Anything that puts focus on food in the game is worth a playtest, I think
ReplyDeleteLove this. Feels similar to me to what Dwiz described about combat in seven part pact.
